Local “Volt” blogger hosts GM execs at auto show

When he’s not doing brain surgery, 39-year-old New York neurologist Lyle Dennis blogs about the much anticipated Chevy Volt.
To say that his blog has been influential would be an understatement — it averages 100,000 visitors per month. GM’s execs were smart enough to recognize his influence, and accepted an invitation to host 300 consumers at the “Volt Nation” event at the New York Auto Show.
The brainchild (ok, I couldn’t resist the pun) of Dennis, Volt Nation was an important opportunity for both GM and for Dennis’ gm-volt.com.
“For the first time in history, a major U.S. automaker will hold a conference not for the press, not for the government … but for the consumer,” said Dennis.
On Wednesday, several top executives, including Mr. Lutz himself, answered questions from a room full of people who’d all like to be first to own the electric vehicle when it comes out.
Larry Geguzis, who drove from Lockhaven, Pa., in his Jeep Grand Cherokee to meet the team developing what he expects to be his next car, said the Volt Nation event was just what he needed to convince his heart what his head already believed: “The Chevrolet Volt, it is a sincere effort.”
