CE “lightens” the energy load

Yes, finally — CFLs are here en masse! Over the past few weeks, Campbell-Ewald has installed CFLs in a total of 243 light fixtures around the agency. That adds up to about $4,500 a year in energy savings, and it’s just another way we’re trying to reduce our impact on the environment.

5 easy things you can do to be kind to the earth

  •  Make your own notebook. Let’s consider what notebooks actually are: paper to write notes on before you eventually create a document electronically. Notebook are essential, but I don’t attach any style to them. To me, they might as well be cocktail napkins. So why not put all the scrap paper around the office to good use? Take 50 sheets of scrap paper and arrange them with the blank side up. Find a paper cutter (they are in most of the copier rooms) and then cut the sheets in half vertically. Now you have 100 8.5″ x 5.5″ sheets of paper. Clip the sheets together with a binder clip. Now you have a handy scratch pad that cost the company and the planet nothing.

Drink up

GreenYou’ve probably already noticed the huge water-filter systems in the kitchens. But the thing you’ll really notice over the next few weeks is the absence of plastic water bottles around the agency.

We’re making the transition easy for you: use your new reusable Garden water bottle to fill up with fresh, great-tasting reverse-osmosised (is that a word?) water, take a small step toward helping clean up our landfills.

In case you didn’t know:

  • 86% of plastic water bottles are landfilled or incinerated — not recycled
  • 1.5 million barrels of oil are used in the U.S. alone to make plastic water bottles
  • Bottled water is more expensive per gallon than gasoline and incurs a huge carbon footprint from its transportation

GreenNot to toot our own horn, but we are very proud to have recently been recognized by Great Lakes Recycling for our recycling efforts. GLR awarded us the 2007 Responsible Recycling Award which is given to select Michigan businesses that have successful recycling programs and initiatives.

Keep up the good work and remember to continue recycling. Every person makes a difference when it comes to our environment.
